Pottery is an industry producing environmental friendly, healthy and artistic pieces of utensils. Unfortunately with modernization and the advent of cheaper substitutes such as metal utensils the demand for pottery in the market is rapidly decreasing. In addition pottery industry is facing even more challenges with the difficulty to obtain clay without a government endorsed permit which is a tedious task that takes more than three months. Particularly the villages in the rural villages of Kalviyangadu and Udvil are battered by this situation as their lives thrive on this industry which they have been practicing for generations. If the authorities can encourage the pottery industry by ensuring convenient and regular access to clay these craftsmen will continue to produce quality products which will boost the industry, generate revenue as well as improve the health and well-being of the community.

Pavatharani Paramasivam, a young mobile storyteller trained under the "Mobile Storytelling" program launched by SDJF in collaboration with iVoice and Neelan Thiruchelvam Trust (NTT) wants the authorities to look into this matter and do the justice to the community.
