Shortlist of iVoice innovative ideas competition

We are happy to announce the 20 shortlisted best ideas of the iVoice innovative idea competition selected by the independent panel of judges.

The 20 shortlisted competitors will participate in the final round of the competition on 20 and 21 September in Colombo. With the assistance of iVoice team, Sri Lanka Development Journalists' Forum (SDJF), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), UN Resident Coordinator of Sri Lanka and independent mentors, they will develop their concepts into formal project ideas. On 21 September, they will present their ideas to the judges more formally and the 10 finalists will be awarded. They will be offered Rs. 100,000 each to implement their projects. Mentoring and further assistance will be provided by SDJF and UNFPA.  

Following is the shortlist with brief introduction to their idea, gender of the competitor and the district the competitor is representing.

Chamal Malintha Gunasinghe (male / Kalutara) Communicating socially important messages using LED panels in a remote town
Dinithi Prathibha Kaluarachchi (female / Rathnapura) Workshop on how mis-using Facebook can lead to exploitation of youth 
Damith Chandana (male / Kandy) Producing a video to raise awareness on sexual harassement against women in public transport
Chamali Priyatharshani (female / Hambanthota) Study of the reasons for ethnic enmities in a pluralistic society through social media
Sandali Nithma (female / Kalutara) First step to be an inventor
Rifak Ahmed (male / Galle) Establishing household bio-gas unit using waste
Sandaradura lakmee nilanka de silva (female / Matara) Integrated education for children with special needs
Sivalingam Vimalraj (male / Jaffna) Producing an awareness video about why students drop out from school
Nishan kumara (male / Galle) Establishing a school library and awareness
Nalinda priyanjith silva (male / Colombo) Producing a mosquito trap for dengue control
Nalaka Wehalla (male / Hambanthota) Preventing accidents through participatory communication
Arzath Areeff (male / Ampara) Developing a mobile application for garbage collection
Mohamed Arshad (male / Kegalle) A poster campaign on drug usage
Madhusha Pannigalagamage (female / Colombo) Making the dreams of expatriate mothers about their families a reality
Aminda Madumal Abeyshinghe (male / Galle)  Directing 350 future-teachers (present teacher-trainees) to work against violence in schools
Jestin Peter (male / Nuwaraeliya) Conduct seminars in specific schools for parents on psycological effects
Lositha Dissanayake (male / Kandy) Create a 'monkey cafe' in Denuwara
