දශක තුනක යුද්ධය අවසානයේ එනම් 2010 වසරේදී ළමා හා කාන්තා ළමා කටයුතු අමත්යංශය විසින් ඉදිරිපත් කළ දත්ත අනුව 89,000 ක කාන්තාවන් ප්රමාණයක් යුද්ධය හා ආශ්රිත සිද්ධීන් නිසා උතුරු නැගෙනහිර ප්රදේශ තුළ වැන්දඹුවන් වී සිටින බව ප්රකාශ කළා . එයින් කාන්තාවන් 49,000ක් අයත් වන්නේ නැගෙනහිර පළාතටයි.
උතුරු මැද පලාත යුද්ධයේ කටුකත්වය අපිරිමිතව විඳගත් පලාතයි. මෙයට හේතුව එවක පැවති ව්යවහාරයට අනුව යුද්ධයේ මායිම් වෙන්කළ ගම්මාන අයත් වූයේ පොළොන්නරු දිස්ත්රිකයට වීම නිසයි. යුද්ධය නිසා කඩා වැටී තිබූ ජන ජිවිතය තවමත් පිළිසකර වී නැති බව පෙනෙන්නට ඇති සත්යයක්.
යුද්ධයේ පීඩාව පොළොන්නරු දිස්ත්රික්කයේ මායිමේ පිහිටි ගම්මාන වලට සුපුරුදු අත්දැකීමක් වූවත් යුද්ධය නිමවී දශයකයක් ගෙවීයන මේ මොහොතේ පවා මෙහි වෙසෙන ජනයා තම ජීවන වෘත්තීන් ගොඩනගාගන්න දැඩි පරිශ්රමයක නිරත වෙනවා. එමෙන්ම ජන ජීවිතය ගොඩනගාගැනීම වෙනුවෙන් අවශ්ය සාධක තවමත් මේ ප්රදේශවල ස්ථාපනයට පැවති මෙන්ම පවතින රජයන් අසමත් වී තිබෙනවා. මේ තත්වය හේතුවෙන් යුද්ධයේ පීඩාව විඳි කාන්තාවන් විශේෂයෙන් යුධ වැන්දඹුවන් මෙන්ම පවුලේ බර උසුලන කාන්තාවන් අන්ත අසරණ වී සිටිනවා.
යුද්ධය පැවති සමයේ මහජනයා මර බියෙන් ඇළලී ගිය ගම්මාන අතුරින්, පොළොන්නරුව දිස්ත්රික්කයට අයත් වැලිකන්ද ප්රාදේශිය ලේකම් කොට්ඨාසයේ කරපොල ගම්මානය ප්රමුඛය. එකල මායිම් ගම්මාන, යුධ තර්ජිත ගම්මාන යනාදී වශයෙන් හැඳින් වු මේ ගම්මාන වල වැසියන් දහවල් කාලයේ ගොවිතැන් කටයුතු, කුලි වැඩ, මාළු ඇල්ලිම වැනි දුෂ්කර රැකියාවල නිරතව සිට පැමිණ තම අඹුදරුවන් සමග රැය පහන් කළේ තම අඹු දරුවන් සමග කෑළෑවලය.
නමුත් 1992 වසරේ අප්රේල් මස එක් රාත්රියක කරපොල ගම්මානයට කඩා වැදුණු ආයුධ සන්නද්ධ ත්රස්තවාදීන්ගේ ගොදුරු බවට පත් වූ ගම් වැසියන් අතර කන්දයියා පාක්කියම් සයදරු මවගේ සැමියා වන හතළිස් තුන් හැවිරි පොන්නන් ද විය.
“මම යුද්ධය නිසා ගොඩාක් දුක් විඳපු බැටකාපු ගැණියෙක් මගේ පුරුෂයා මට අකාලේ නැති උනා. එතකොට මාගේ බාල පුතා අත දරුවෙක්. දරුවෝ හය දෙනෙක් එක්කලා මම මේ ලෝකේ තනි උනා. දරුවෝ ජිවත් කරවන්න කිසිම මාර්ගයක් තිබුණේ නැහැ. මම මොනවා කරන්නද දරුවෝ දාලා රස්සාවකට යන්නත් බෑ, දරුවෝ බඩගින්නේ තියන්නත් බෑනේ ඊට පස්සේ තමයි මේ කරවල වේලන රස්සාව ම ම තෝර ගත්තේ. මට කිසිම කෙනෙක් උදව්වට ආවේ නැහැ. මම අධිෂ්ඨාන කරගත්තා කොහොම හරි දරුවෝ ජිවත් කරවනවා මොන දේ කරලා හරි කියලා . එහෙම හිතලා තමයි කරවල වේලන්න පටන් ගත්තේ. ඊට කලින් මම මේ රස්සාව කරලා තිබුනේ නැහැ. වැව් මාළු අල්ලන අයගෙන් මාළු සල්ලි වලට අරගෙන තමයි එදා ඉඳලම කළේ ”
ජිවිතය කඳුලට දියකර හරින්නට බාර නොකොට දිගු කලක පටන් මෙම ජිවන අරගලයේ නිරතව සිටින බවයි ඇය පවසන්නේ. අභියෝග හමුවේ දිරියෙන් ජීවිතය හරිහම්බ කරගන්නා කාන්තාවන් මේ සමාජයට සපයන්නේ අපූරු ආදර්ශයක්. පාක්කියම් අම්මාගේ ගේ විඩාබර මුහුණ දෙස බලන විට ඇයගේ සිත තිස්පස් වසරක පමණ පෙර අතීතයට දිව යන්නට ඇතැයි සිතේ. නමුත් ඇයගේ මුහුණින් ප්රකට වූයේ පරාජිත බවක් නොව එක්තරා අන්දමක ජයග්රාහි ලීලාවකි.
“දැන් මගේ දරුවෝ ඔක්කොම ලොකු මහත් වෙලා ගැහැණු ළමයි විවාහ වෙලා. මගේ බාල පුතා දැන් ගුරුවරයෙක් වැලිකන්ද ඉස්කෝලෙක දරුවන්ට ඉංග්රීසි උගන්නනවා. මට හරිම සතුටුයි. දරුවන්ට ඉගැන්නුවේ. එදිනෙදා වියදම් හොයාගත්තේ දරුවන් දීග දුන්නේ මේ ගේ හදා ගත්තේ හැම දෙයක්ම මම කර ගත්තේ කරවල වේලලා ගත්ත සල්ලි වලින් දැන් ලොකු ආඩම්බරයක් හිතට දැනෙනවා. මම තවමත් මගේ පුරුදු රස්සාව කරගෙන යනවා. දැන් මම මේක කරන්නේ මට ජිවත් වෙන්න. අනුන්ට අත නොපා ජිවත් වෙන්න. අනිත් අයට උදව්වක් උපකාරයක් කරන්න."
සැබවින්ම යුද්ධයෙන් බැට කෑ අප රටේ සුවහසක් කාන්තාවන් අතර අධිෂ්ඨානයෙන් විර්යයෙන් යුතුව ජීවිතයට මුහුණ දුන් දිරිය කාන්තාවන්ගේ කුලකය නියෝජනය කරන කරපොල කන්දයියා පාක්කියම් ගේ කතාව තවත් එක් වැන්දඹු කාන්තාවකගේ කතාවක් පමණයි මෙවන් කතා අසූ නවදහසක් අපට කියන්න පුළුවන්. ඔවුන් හැම කෙනෙකුගේම කතාව මේ වගේ සාර්ථක අවසානයක් දැක නැත. තවමත් ඔවුන් සිටින්නේ උදව් කළයුතු උදව් ලැබිය යුතු අවධියකයි. පශ්චාත් යුධ සමයේ සංවර්ධන ඉලක්කයන් හී කාන්තාව ප්රමුඛත්වයක් හිමිවිය යුතුයයි අප පවසන්නේ මේ කරුණු නිසයි. යලිත් මේරටේ කිසි දිනකවත් යුද්ධයක් ඇති නොවිය යුතු යැයි පාක්කියම් අම්මා අවධාරණය කර සිටිනවා. මොකද යුද්ධයේ බියකරු බව, සැහැසි බව මතු පරපුරට උරුම නොවිය යුතුයැයි ඇය තරයේ විශ්වාස කරන නිසා.

iVoice Idea Competition
iVoice is an online platform that encourages youth to discuss social issues and to drive innovative solutions. The platform features stories relating to social issues in Sri Lanka, which are submitted by iVoice contributors and the general public.
The objective of the iVoice Idea Competition is to encourage youth to play a participatory role in solving social issues. After reading a story featured on iVoice, youth can submit their ‘idea’ to help to address the social issue that is highlighted in the story. The ten best ideas will receive seed capital of Rs. 100,000/- each, and mentoring, to support in implementing their ideas.
The majority of articles featured on iVoice relate to a social issue. These stories have a ‘Submit Your Idea’ button at the end of the article, inviting youth to share their innovative ideas on how to address these social issues.
Submitted ideas must be innovative and unique. The ideas must also be practical and implementable by 31 December 2017.
The deadline for submitting an idea is 3 September 2017.
To submit an idea, the following details must be provided through the online form:
Note: Participants can submit any number of ideas; however, only one idea per article is permitted.
Ideas will be evaluated through a competitive process.

Evaluation criteria includes creativity of the proposed idea to address the given social issue, and feasibility of implementation within the stipulated budget and timeframe.
